How to Crochet Fairycore Flower Socks

Hi my darlings and welcome to my first crochet pattern blog post, which means the pattern is FREE. I would recommend this pattern to those of you who are of an intermediate crochet skill level or higher. That being said, if you are feeling adventurous I would always encourage you to give it a go, especially since in crochet we can simply unravel a project if it is not turning out how we had hoped. Luckily a much quicker process than the unpicking in sewing for sure!!!

The size of these socks can be customized and instructions of where and how to do that are within the pattern tutorial below. Please note that this pattern is written using US crochet terminology.

You will need:

  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Approximately 100g of yarn
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Abbreviations

  • Chain – CH
  • Yarn over – YO
  • Slip stitch – SS
  • Single crochet – SC
  • Half double crochet – HDC
  • Double crochet – DC
  • Make 2 single crochets together – SC2TOG

Instructions

Main part of sock

Please note that the CH 2 always counts as the first DC.

Round 1

Make a magic circle, CH 2, make 11 DC then close with a SS. (12 total stitches total)

Round 2

CH 2, make another DC in the same stitch, then make 2 DC in each stitch then close with SS. (24 stitches total)

Round 3

CH 2, *make 2 DC in next stitch, then 1 DC, repeat from the * 11 more times until the round is complete, then close with SS. (36 stitches total)

Round 4

CH 2, make 1 DC in each stitch. (36 stitches total)

Rounds 5-14

Now repeat round 4, if you want the socks to be shorter do less rounds and if you want the socks to be longer do more rounds.

Round 15

CH 2, make 10 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 24 DC. (37 stitches total)

Round 16

CH 2, make 16 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 19 DC. (38 stitches total)

Round 17

CH 2, make 5 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 31 DC. (39 stitches total)

Round 18

CH 2, make 12 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 25 DC. (40 stitches total)

Round 19

CH 2, make 21 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 17 DC. (41 stitches total)

Round 20

CH 2, make 24 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 15 DC. (42 stitches total)

Round 21

CH 2, make 29 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 11 DC. (43 stitches total)

Round 22

CH 2, make 18 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 23 DC. (44 stitches total)

Round 23

CH 2, make 33 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 9 DC. (45 stitches total)

Round 24

CH 2, make 14 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 29 DC. (46 stitches total)

Here you can continue making the socks wider if you need to, just make sure that the number of stitches is an even number.

Round 25

CH 23, skip 23 stitches, then attach with a SS. Basically chain half the number of stitches you have then skip half the number of stitches. This is the part where we will leave a gap for the heel of the sock.

Round 26

CH 2, crochet 45 DC, close with a SS. (46 stitches total)

Round 27

CH 2, 21 DC, make 2 DC together, 22 DC, close with a SS. (45 stitches total)

Round 28

CH 2, 20 DC, make 2 DC together, 21 DC, close with a SS. (43 stitches total)

If you want your socks to be narrower you can continue decreasing by 1 stitch every round. But if you want them wider you can exclude the 2 DC together parts.

Round 29

CH 2, then do 41 DC. (42 stitches total)

Rounds 30-42

CH 2, then do 40 DC. (41 stitches total) You can always do more rounds if you want a longer sock.

Round 43

Basically the number of stitches you have in the last round should be a multiple of 4, but if not you can always do an extra HDC or 2 after completing each flower.

How to crochet a border flower

Step 1

*Ch 3, **YO and then insert your hook into the 1st chain and YO and pull through. Repeat from the ** 2 more times so you have 6 loops on your hook.

Step 2

Then repeat from the * in the next stitch. Now you will have 13 loops on your hook.

Step 3

Skip 1 stitch and repeat from the * in the 3rd stitch, then YO and pull through alllll the loops and CH 1.

Step 4

(*YO insert your hook into the CH you just made, basically the centre of the flower, and YO and pull through. Repeat from the * 2 more times then YO and pull through all the loops), then CH 2. Repeat the section in brackets once more.

Step 5

Then make 1 HDC. Repeat all the steps to make a border flower until you reach the end of the round, then close with a SS, and end off!

How to Crochet the Heel of the Sock

Please note that the CH 1 at the beginning of each round DOES NOT count as a stitch for the heel. Depending on whether or not you made your sock smaller or bigger than mine you may need to do more/less rounds for the heel.

Round 1

Make a slip knot and start on the bottom middle of the heel about halfway between the corners and do 49 SC, then close with a SS.

Round 2

CH 1, 13 SC, do SC2TOG. Crochet 22 SC, then make SC2TOG. Then crochet 10 SC and then close with a SS. (47 stitches total)

Round 3

CH 1, do 12 SC, then make SC2TOG. Do 21 SC, then do another SC2TOG. Crochet 10 SC more, then close with a SS. (45 stitches total)

Round 4

CH 1, do 11 SC, then make SC2TOG. Crochet 20 SC more, then make another SC2TOG. Crochet 10 SC and close with a SS. (43 stitches total)

Round 5

CH 1, do 10 SC, make SC2TOG. Crochet 19 SC more, then do another SC2TOG. Crochet 10 SC and close with a SS. (41 stitches total)

Round 6

CH 1, do 9 SC, make SC2TOG. Crochet 18 SC more, then do another SC2TOG, make 10 SC and close with a SS. (39 stitches total)

Round 7

CH 1, do 8 SC, then make SC2TOG. Crochet 17 SC more, then do another SC2TOG. Do 10 SC and close with a SS. (37 stitches total)

Round 8

CH 1, do 7 SC, then make SC2TOG. Crochet 16 SC more, then do SC2TOG. Do 10 SC and close with a SS. (35 stitches total)

Round 9

CH 1, do 6 SC, make SC2TOG. Crochet 15 SC more, make SC2TOG. Do 10 SC and close with a SS. (33 stitches total)

Round 10

CH 1, do 5 SC, do SC2TOG. Crochet 14 SC more, then make SC2TOG. Do 10 SC and close with a SS. (31 stitches total)

Round 11

CH 1, do 4 SC, make SC2TOG. Crochet 13 SC more, then do SC2TOG. Make 10 SC and close with a SS. (29 stitches total)

Round 12

CH 1, do 3 SC, then do SC2TOG. Crochet 12 SC more, then make SC2TOG. Do 10 SC and close with a SS. (27 stitches total)

Round 13 or the last round

Finally do approximately 22 SC2TOG then close with 2 SS, this last part is best done when you have a total of 27 stitches in a round, but you can always try your sock on and see how it fits and if you should do more rounds before the last one.

Now all you need to do is repeat all those steps one more time for your other sock! And then you are finally done!!!
