Hello, and welcome to, as the title says, FREE crochet leaf garland patterns. In this guide you’ll find variations of leaf garlands such as the Tunisian crochet version, the heart-shaped leaf, and the cut-out leaves. Some of these leaf garlands will be more suitable for beginners than others, but with practice you’ll be able to make any of these garlands you wish to. I will be using the same yarn and crochet hook to demonstrate all the leaf variations but these crochet patterns will work for a range of yarn/hook sizes. You just need to experiment to find the correct size for your project. Of course, you can crochet leaves in many more colours than green, especially if you have a more whimsical sense of style. You can use crochet patterns for many different projects, such as making garlands or vines, or sewing your leaves as appliqué onto clothes, or whatever your imagination conjures up.
This post is by no means complete and I’m sure I’ll find more crochet leaf garland patterns to add to it in the future. In any case, feel free to comment below with any leaf garland ideas that I may have missed! Thank you, and enjoy your crocheting!
Please note that these tutorials make use of US crochet terminology.
I used a 3mm crochet hook and suitable yarn for that size for all of the tutorials in this post.

How to Crochet the Simple Leaf Garland
As the title suggests, this is the simplest leaf garland you can crochet. It makes use of the Simple Leaf Pattern with the extra slip stitches. This garland can also be done with the Tiny Leaf or the Long Leaf instead.

- Make a slip knot and do 10 CH.
- In the 2nd chain from your hook, make 1 SC. Then make 1 HDC, 1 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 1 TR, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 1 DC, 1 HDC, then end the row with 1 SC.
- Turn your leaf then make the following stitches on the other side to mirror the row from Step 2: 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 1 TR, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC, then close with 1 SS.
- Now crochet a line of 9 SS in the centre of your leaf.
- Make more CH stitches, it’s up to you how many chains you want between each leaf, but make sure there are at least 10 CH.
- Now repeat Steps 1-5 (except for the slip knot) until your garland is your desired length.
How to Crochet the Single Leaf Garland

This garland can also be done in using various leaf types such as the Simple Leaf, Tiny Leaf, and Long Leaf.
- Now repeat Steps 1-3 (except for the slip knot part of course) until your garland is your desired length.
How to Crochet the Leaf Garland – Tunisian Style

Step 1
Make a slip knot and then crochet 7 CH.
Step 2
Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook and YO and pull through. YO and pull through the following chains until you have 7 loops on your hook in total. Try to make each loop bigger than the previous one, as shown in the picture below.

Step 3
YO and pull it through the first loop on your hook. Then YO again and pull through 2 loops. Repeat from the * 5 more times until you have 1 loop on your hook, then CH 1 and turn your work.

Step 4
Insert your hook into the 2nd chain from the hook and YO and pull through. YO and pull through the following chains until you have 7 loops on your hook in total. Try to make each loop bigger than the previous one, as shown in the picture below.

Step 5
YO and pull it through the first loop on your hook. Then YO again and pull through 2 loops. Repeat from the * 5 more times until you have 1 loop on your hook, then turn your work, insert your hook into the loop on the left, then YO and pull through both of the loops. This will make the tip of your leaf pointy.

Step 6
Now repeat Steps 1-5 (except for the slip knot) until your leaf garland in the Tunisian style is the desired length.
How to Crochet the Heart-shaped Leaf Garland

Step 1
Make a slip knot and CH 5. Then YO and insert your hook into the 1st chain stitch, make a DC (but only YO and pull through the 1st 2 loops), then make another DC in the same stitch (again only YO and pull through the 1st 2 loops so there are 3 loops on your hook in total. Then YO and pull through all 3 loops (this is called a 2DCTOG stitch). Lastly, make 2 CH.

Step 2
Now make 6 incomplete DCs, inserting your hook into the 1st DC from Step 2.

Step 3
Then YO and pull it through the 1st loop on your hook. *Then YO again and pull it through the next 2 loops on your hook. Repeat from the * 4 more times until you only have 2 loops on your hook.

Step 4
Now remove your crochet hook and turn your work around so that the leaf half you did in Step 4 is now on the right instead of the left. Insert your hook through the 2 loops again.
Step 5
Now make 6 incomplete DCs, inserting your hook into the 2nd DC from Step 2.
Step 6
Then YO and pull it through the 1st loop on your hook. *Then YO again and pull it through the next 2 loops on your hook. Repeat from the * 4 more times until you only have 3 loops on your hook. YO and pull it through all 3 loops.
Step 7
Make 3 CH.

Then, in the 2 CH from Step 2 (this is at the back of the leaf) join the chains with a SS.

Step 8
CH 5, then do 2 DCTOG in the loop created by the 5 chains from Step 1, and then CH 2.

Step 9
Repeat Steps 2-8 until your heart leaf garland is as long as you want, then you can cut off the excess yarn and weave in the ends using a tapestry needle.
How to Crochet the Monstera Leaf Garland
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to call this type of leaf garland. Eventually I settled on monstera just because it’s the only leaf I know of that naturally can have holes in it. If you have any better ideas for a name I’m all ears.

Step 1
Make a slip knot and CH 22.
Step 2
Skip 9 CH from your hook, and insert your hook into the 10th chain and make a SS so a loop is formed.

Step 3
Turn your work and make 1 SC, 1 HDC, 6 DC, and 1 TR in the loop you just made.

Step 4
CH 3, then make 1 SS in the 1st chain you just made to form the pointed tip of the leaf.

Step 5
Now crochet 6 DC, 1 HDC, and 1 SC along the opposite side of the loop, joining with a SS at the end.

Step 6
Now do some slip stitches along the CH of the chains of the stem. Then repeat Steps 1-5 (except for the slip knot) to create a leaf garland as long as you want.
