Hello, and welcome to this new blog post which is simply a compilation of free sewing patterns inspired by the whimsical fairycore aesthetic for the seasons of spring and summer. I decided to simply combine the seasonal categories of spring and summer because they are so similar. Also I currently don’t have that many sewing tutorials on my blog for me to feel that separating the categories is a necessity. I only have 10 free fairycore sewing patterns for the spring/summer (so far at least). It’s still a good starting place for you to build your very own whimsical wardrobe for warmer weather. In this roundup you will find a range of fairycore inspired clothes for the spring/summer: from shorts to skirts scrunchies to dresses, and even a top.
If you have any more ideas for sewing patterns you would like to see from me just let me know in the comments below!

1. Flower Cut Outs
Firstly, we have a free sewing tutorial that will help you transform an existing item of clothing into one with whimsy. You can do as many or as little flower cut outs as you want, even changing up the sizes of the flower cut outs as well. It’s totally up to you! Using a different colour fabric for the ribbon ties can change the vibes of your top/garment as well.

2. Half Circle Midi Skirt
This half circle midi skirt is unexpectedly (to me at least), one of my most, if not the most, popular free sewing tutorials I have posted on my blog. Personally I find a half circle skirt to be a good balance between flowiness and fabric volume as a full circle skirt does require quite a bit of fabric! Although this does depend on the skirt length that you want of course. The skirt has an elastic waistband (much easier to sew than a zip!), and the always essential pockets. I have a goal to always include pockets in every dress or skirt pattern I create. Pockets are technically optional of course, but they are well worth the extra time and effort to sew them, wouldn’t you agree?

3. Strappy Maxi Dress
Here is a dress that also includes the slip pockets in the side seams. The waistband and straps of this maxi dress are also elasticated for extra comfort. I sewed this dress with French seams because, in addition to looking neat, they also prevent fraying at the seams which helps your sewing project to last for all the springs and summers ahead. At the bottom of the dress’ skirt there is a lovely ruffle for added fairycore flair as you dance around in sunlit meadows.

4. Patchwork Pants
These patchwork pants are an excellent way to use up all those scraps of pretty printed fabrics that are too small to use yet too precious to just throw away. By making these trousers you will have a collage of all of your previous projects rolled into one. This tutorial is also suitable for sewing beginners as it features an elastic waistband and side slip pockets (and you’ll be able to practice sewing a lot of straight seams with all the patchwork, too).

5. Satin Slip Dress
Here is a more formal fairycore dress, perhaps for an outdoor dinner party on a warm summers night? Either way the shimmery satin and translucent ruffles are sure to dazzle no matter the occasion. This evening dress is relatively simple by formal wear standards as it is a slip dress cut out on the bias for a teensy bit of stretch and drape. And to give you more shape there are adjustable waist ties as well.

6. Scrunchies
When the weather is particularly hot I, as someone with long hair, can’t bear to have my hair touching my neck. So I need to put my hair up somehow. I like doing plaits but they’re time consuming. Luckily scrunchies are a quick alternative that help me cope with the heat and look whimsically cute at the same time. Especially when I have scrunchies in shiny fabrics or with extra details such as ruffles. Scrunchies are a great project for beginner sewers because all the seams are straight and you can choose a lightweight woven fabric that’s easy to work with as well. And then, since they are relatively quick to make, you can even sell your scrunchies or gift them to friends and family!

7. Simple Shorts
As always, no spring/summer wardrobe is complete without at least one pair of shorts. Shorts can be all sorts of colours, patterns, and styles but I decided to first make a simple shorts tutorial for you before going onto the more intricate stuff. These loose fitting shorts are made in a muted green woven cotton, easy to sew and breathable on hot days. Once again I have included pockets and also an elastic waistband (this time with a slight variation, but you can always sew your waistband the regular way).

8. Slip Mini Dress
This fairycore mini dress with adjustable ribbon ties is made from the same fabric as the half circle midi skirt I mentioned earlier in this post. So I can wear it underneath the skirt and create yet another outfit combination. But on a hot day I would personally just wear this slip dress over a swimsuit at the beach or pool.
This slip dress is easier to make than the satin one, as long as you use a non-slippery woven fabric such as cotton. And it’s also cut on the bias for a bit of stretch as well. The tie straps add an adjustable element and the waist ties are optional in case you want to emphasise your waist (or not, it’s totally up to you at the end of the day).

9. Summery Trousers
These trousers feature open side seams that are held together by ribbon ties. I won’t lie to you, these ribbon ties are A LOT of repetitive work but they are so cute and whimsical. Especially for hot weather when you want to be covered up but also feel a bit of a breeze on your legs. As always, I had to include pockets on these pants and also an elastic waistband. I chose a multicoloured floral print in a lightweight woven cotton for mine but any colour of lightweight woven fabric should work. Just remember, if you choose a pastel colour, it may mean your pants will turn out slightly translucent!

10. Tiered Maxi Skirt
This skirt is made out of an old duvet cover that I dyed green. I loved the butterfly embroidery but I’m too clumsy to wear such light coloured clothing so that’s why I dyed it.
Anyways…tiered skirts are lovely, especially with all their flowy gathers that will flare out as you spin around the garden. It’s also a great way to keep covered in warm weather while still being comfortable. As yes, this skirt has pockets (cause duh) and an elastic waistband.
