How to Crochet a Spring Flower Wreath – Free Pattern

Hello, and welcome to a free crochet tutorial that’s just perfect for spring decor. And it makes a good gift as well. Especially for Mother’s Day. This is also a great project to do in order to use up scraps of yarn since the leaves and flowers are tiny. I actually made my hoop myself out of some wooden skewers joined with hot glue and I may make a future blog post about it.

Please note that these tutorials make use of US crochet terminology.

• CH – chain
• SS – slip stitch
• SC – single crochet
• HDC – half double crochet
• DC – double crochet
• SC2TOG – crochet 2 single crochet stitches together
• YO – yarn over

Crochet Flower Wreath Instructions

How to Crochet Around the Hoop

Make a slip knot and then make 122 CH (it needs to be enough chains to fit around the hoop). You can always have a few extra chains as well. Then make SC around the hoop so your crocheting encases the hoop. When you get to the beginning join the ends with a SS. The CH 30 (or however many you want) for the hanging loop. Close the loop using a SS. Then you can cut off the rest of the yarn and weave in the ends with a tapestry needle.

How to Crochet the Paired Leaves

I used a 3mm crochet hook and suitable yarn for these leaves.

Step 1

Make a slip knot and do 6 CH.

Step 2

In the 2nd chain from your hook, make 1 SC. Then make 1 HDC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 1 HDC, then end the row with 1 SC. (6 stitches total)

Step 3

Now turn your leaf make make the following stitches on the other side to mirror the row from Step 2: 1 SC, 1 HDC, 2 DC in 1 stitch, 1 HDC, 1 SC, then close with 1 SS.

Step 4

Now you can crochet a line of 5 SS in the centre of your leaf.

Step 5

Now repeat Steps 1-4 (except for making the slip knot of course). Then you can cut off your excess yarn and tie it to the string of yarn from the beginning so you can use it to attach the leaves to the wreath.

Repeat all the steps until you have as many leaves as you want (I did 10 pairs of leaves in total).

How to Crochet the Bell Flower

I used a size 3mm crochet hook and suitable yarn for these bell flowers.

Round 1

Make a magic ring, CH 1, then make 6 HDC inside the ring. Close with a SS.

Round 2

CH 1, (*then YO and insert your hook into the next stitch and pull through so there are 3 loops on your hook in total. Repeat from the * 4 more times then YO and then pull through all the loops and CH 1)

Repeat the section in the () brackets 5 more times and then close with a SS.

Round 3

Now make 6 SC2TOG.

Round 4

(CH 1, then *make 2 HDC in the space between 2 of the puff stitches from Round 2. CH 3 then make 1 SC in the 2nd HDC. Repeat from the * twice more in the same space, then make 1 SS in the next stitch). Repeat the section in brackets () twice more before cutting off the excess yarn and weaving in the ends.

When I wove in the end of the yarn I tightened the flower into more of a bell shape. Then I tied the end of the yarn to the piece from the beginning so I could use both yarn pieces to attach each flower to the wreath.

Repeat all the steps to make as many flowers as you want (I did 10 flowers in total).

Final Steps for the Crochet Spring Flower Wreath

Now all you have to do is attach all of your leaves and flowers to the hoop. This task is tedious but make sure you do it properly so that your pieces don’t fall off or unravel!
