Seasons greetings to you, wherever you are on this planet of ours. Despite this free crochet pattern being for earmuffs I am most definitely not in one of the Earth’s regions that is getting colder this time of year. But, I’m sure you know what it’s like when you’re struck by the lightning that is inspiration. And in this particular case I was struck so hard that I just couldn’t focus on any of the other unfinished projects I have, of which there are many, until I had created these fairycore flower earmuffs.
And so here they are.
Luckily this was quite a quick pattern even for me who was busy redoing the flowers because they just weren’t quite right. You could whip these up in an hour or two for sure. Perhaps a little longer if you’re more of a beginner when it comes to crochet. And this project doesn’t require a lot of yarn at all so you can use up some of your yarn scrap stash as well. It’s the ultimate blend of quick and cute for sure.
And yet another whimsical fairycore crochet project that is perfect to give as a gift or even to sell.

Abbreviations
- CH – chain
- SS – slip stitch
- SC – single crochet
- HDC – half double crochet
- DC – double crochet
- TR – triple crochet
- YO – yarn over
You will need:
- A 4.5mm crochet hook
- Approximately 100g of suitable yarn
- An Alice band (optional)
- Tapestry needle
- Some kind of stuffing,
How to Crochet the Flower
Round 1
Make a slip knot, then CH 3, then crochet 9 DC into the first chain. Close with a SS to form a circle. (10 stitches total)
Round 2
CH 2, then make 1 DC in the same stitch. Then make 2 DC in each of the next 9 stitches. Close the round with a SS. (20 stitches total)
Round 3
Crochet 2 HDC in the first stitch, 1 DC in the next stitch, 2 HDC in the stitch after that, then 1 SS. Repeat 4 more times from the * until the round is complete. (30 stitches total)
Round 4
*Make 2 DC in the next stitch, then 2 TR in the 2nd stitch, another 2 TR in the 3rd stitch, then 1 SS in each of the following 2 stitches. Repeat from the * 4 more times, but only do 1 SS the last time. Leave a long tail of yarn so that you can use it to sew the flowers together.
Repeat Rounds 1-4 until you have 4 flowers in total.
How to Crochet the Joining Band
Having an alice band in your earmuffs is optional, just remember to make your flowers first and then make sure your joining band fits over your head so that the flowers will cover your ears nicely. And you will need 2 ties to keep your earmuffs on your head, you can either make chains or do a crochet cord for those.
Row 1
Make a slip knot and CH 73, or just make enough chains to be the same length as your alice band.
Rows 2-3
Crochet a row of 72 SC, then CH 1.
Row 4
Now create a thin tube around the alice band by joining each SC from Row 3 to the bottom loop of the chain from Row 1 using a SS. In total you should have 72 SSs. Leave the yarn tails because you can simply hide them in the flowers in the next step.
How to Put the Fairycore Flower Earmuffs Together
Use one of the yarn tails from a flower (and your tapestry needle, of course), and begin to join it to 1 of your other flowers.
Before you insert the 1 of the alice band ends, put the alice band on your hand and check how far into the flower it needs to go.
Then put as much stuffing as you want into the joined flowers before inserting the end of the alice band and securing, and then sealing it by sewing. Repeat for the other 2 flowers at the other end of the alice band.
